The Elegance Web Group began in
2001 as a small eBay store (Elegantly Yours Plus Boutique)
specializing in hand-picked Plus-size fashions. It
quickly became apparent that there was an overwhelming need for
quality full-figured apparel that was not being met.
The founder, a curvy academic with specializations in art,
dress and non-verbal communication found an additional
demand for her expertise and eye for fashion in mainstream
culture. As letters
and pleas came pouring in from satisfied customers raving
about her clothing sense, wondering where she found her
"hand-picked" items, and asking if there was a website, the
idea of our flagship web-site, ElegantPlus.com, began to
take shape.
In June of 2002, ElegantPlus.com was quietly launched. In six short months, it was obvious that a small retail shop through eBay was not a scaleable model that could best serve the overwhelming demand. Focus shifted away from eBay and onto providing knowledgeable information on various plus apparel retailers, complemented by "Editor's Pick" fashions, size acceptance resources and style discussions through ElegantPlus.com. Quickly becoming a leading plus-size fashion portal catering to sizes 12-34w with over 500 shopping destinations human reviewed within the directories broken down by style, occasion and apparel type, well over a million unique visitors per year, reader demands have shaped our offerings including: plus modeling and clothing resources, support for the plus-size community, curvy book reviews and more. A truly size-positive corner of the media sphere, the Elegance Web Group advocates the "health at every size" philosophy and endeavors to support other businesses, non-profit organizations and community groups that share that view. Plus-size fashion jobs are tracked in a free posting board for both posters and readers, as are News Clippings tracking broader media and societal attitudes impacting full-figured people. Both lists are available as mailings or on RSS feeds. 2005 saw the addition of the Dress Directory, providing valuable sizing information and comparison dress shopping listings for women of all shapes and sizes. Meanwhile the Fifth Anniversary year of 2007 sees further expansion and restructuring to include Elegant Plus Magazine which serves original, copyrighted content by our own columnists writing on such diverse issues as self-esteem and body image, book reviews, plus-size weddings and pregnancies and fashion. Greater resources for plus models is also coming in 2007 with a new domain added to the family of websites. |
